Reception News – 24.10.25

We have finished the end of the first term. The children have done and learnt so much in 8 weeks!

Phonics

This week we have learnt the phonemes/digraphs ss, h, b, f, l and ll. Our hard to read spell words are his and as. The children are working hard on their handwriting and blending simple words. Please keep practicing at home over the holidays.

Everyone should have received an email this week regarding coming to watch a phonics lesson. Spaces are limited. If you haven’t seen the email then please let us know.

Maths

This week the children looked carefully at a range of objects and used the language of comparison to describe sets of objects that they can see. Language has been a key focus and we have used the language of ‘more than’ and ‘fewer than’ to describe how many objects there are in each set. ‘Fewer than’ is used rather than ‘less than’ because the focus is on countable things.

Understanding the World – Diwali

This week we have been learning about the Hindu and Sikh celebration of Diwali. The children have listened to the story of Rama and Sita, made a diva lamp, Diwali cards and created their own Rangoli patterns.

PE

In PE we finished our topic on Fundamental Movement Skills and focussed on throwing and catching. We practised beanbags into hoops during various games and catching a knotted bib to avoid being ‘out’ during a game of tig.

Bonfire event

The children have been given a firework poem to practise at home. We will have a bonfire celebration on Monday 10th November at 2.40 pm on the playground. The event will be held outside, unless the forecast is rain and then it will take place in the infant hall. Everyone is welcome!

Everything else…

We wish you a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 3rd November.
