Reception News – 10.10.25

We have had a super busy week in Reception!

Phonics

This week we have learnt our first diagraph (2 letters which make 1 sound) – ck. We learnt the phonemes e, u and r. The harder to read and spell words we learnt are to, into, put and go. The children have been given the flashcards for these phonemes and words. Please keep all flashcards in your child’s bookbag as we use them in school too.

In our ELS booklets the children are continuing to practice the formation of new graphemes. We have started to sound out and blend words to match them to the correct picture.

On Friday, we had our first paired reading session. The children read in pairs and pointed to the graphemes for their partner to sound out. We were very impressed with how well the children did!

Thank you to everyone who attended our Reading, Phonics and Maths Workshop. This video will support you to pronounce the pure sounds.

All children have been given a log in for Oxford Owl eBooks and fast phonics too. You can read the eBooks and play fast phonics at home to earn certificates.

Maths

In Maths we have continued our learning on numbers up to 5. This week we have focused on number 3. The children have played a subitising game called 3 or not 3. They have also made collections of 3 using different objects.

PE

In PE we focussed on balances this week. We balanced on one leg like flamingos and then had a race in groups where the children balanced bean bags on the top of their heads.

Everything else…

Have a lovely weekend
