It has been a gloriously sunny week at Farfield and the children have enjoyed their playtimes.
Lots of children have been in the cricket nets and we have been using slow-mo video to try to improve some bowling actions. Some boys still ‘chuck it’ with a bent elbow but some of the actions, particularly those who have had some club coaching, are superb. It was great to see Zahra in Y4 grab a ball and demonstrate a perfect delivery first time – not needing to say a word to mightily impress everyone!
Our new additions to Farfield Farm – three Billy Goats Gruff – are settling in well and have drawn crowds at lunchtime. The children are particularly amused by their playful head-butting games. Farm Club built them another shelter and a pallet tower to climb whilst others in the club cleaned out the pig sty. We also received a couple of baskets full of Farfield honey from our bee-keepers Nicole and Susan. These will be on sale at Harvest Festival next month.
On a less positive note, we have had a few less-than-kind comments about different religions – and religion in general – in school this week. This is very unusual for us and I hope that it isn’t reflecting any tensions in the wider world. The three junior children involved are being spoken with individually, and parents informed, but I am also due to speak with KS2 later in assembly on this. Tolerance and respect are cornerstones of our ethos and our diversity is a strength of the school and its community. ‘Ready, Respectful, Kind’ is our motto and we must ‘live it’ every day.
