Electric Explanations!

Electric Explanations!

English

This week, we have been continuing our work on explanation texts and how to construct them – focusing primarily on organising paragraphs and writing clear conclusions. The children were able to carefully select the information that they wanted to include in each paragraph and create subheadings that clearly indicated what each paragraph was about. Later in the week, we also explored the concept of homophones and I have to say, I was very impressed with how many homophones the children could identify!

Guided Reading

We have continued to read ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’, moving onto Chapter 2, where Lila and Chulak set out on their journeys. We particularly enjoyed encountering the character of Rambashi – owner of the River Taxi. The children did some fantastic pieces of work where they identified the details that Philip Pullman included about Rambashi to draw pictures to represent ow they see him.

Science

This week, we have been working to develop our understanding of circuits and their components. The children explored different ways to create a working circuit using lightbulbs (and some motors) and were also able to identify any issues and how they could be fixed. We also looked more closely at how bulbs actually work and the importance of the fillament.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Miss Levett, Mrs Sykes and Mr Nehaul
