It’s been a wet but wonderful week, and the children have enjoyed getting back into learning! We’ve been performing in music, researching history, problem-solving in maths, and, of course, having lots of fun!
Maths
3B have been learning about different types of angles and enjoyed identifying examples of acute, right, and obtuse angles. Children worked in pairs, looked at various images of angles, and discussed why some might assume it’s a different angle. Later in the week, they learned more about horizontal and vertical lines before looking around the classroom searching for them and discussing different angles they could find within the school.
3CW started their unit on shape and enjoyed looking at learning about different angles. We have identified what makes a right angle and on Friday we started to look at examples of acute and obtuse angles too.
Maths homework this week is focused on angles and horizontal and vertical lines.
English
Year 3 are team Varjak! This week, children have been introduced to a family of pedigree cats; Mesopotamian blues who have not stepped out of the Contessa’s house and the only cat to ever do so was their ancestor, Jalal. Things have already started to change with Contessa’s disappearance. Council meetings, sibling rivalry, and two new cats have led Varjak to travel outside! Children enjoyed sharing their thoughts on the chapters, labelling Varjak and mind mapping thoughts about him climbing onto the wall and finally making it outside.
History
This week, 3B have enjoyed continuing their learning about the Romans. They focused on the soldiers’ armour and looked at some of the formations in more detail. The children collected information and then presented it back to the class. Next week, we will begin our next DT project in which the children will design, create and evaluate a Roman shield. We require large pieces of cardboard, yoghurt pots, and milk tops to make them. If you have any of this, please send it in with the children next week.
RE
This week, children have been sharing who inspires them following our unit on inspirational leaders in different faiths. Children recapped the role and importance of a leader, and after reflecting on this, they thought about who inspires them and who they see as a good leader. We have an excellent range, from teachers to footballers – some were inspiring because they had won relatively young trophies, and others because of their skill. Brilliant dancers and singers, and the most special were their adults! Children enjoyed adding details to their choices and explaining why they were chosen through discussions.
Computing
The children have continued with their unit from last term on Google Slides. Both classes have enjoyed adding ‘All about me’ to their slides, changing the theme, and adding text and animations to keep viewers engaged.
PE
The children moved into new groups this week and enjoyed their class choices. 3CW has been working on their OAA skills through various activities to develop teamwork this term. 3B enjoyed practising sprinting over short distances and developing their techniques using strides. Children worked in teams, running to different cones and completing laps.
In striking and fielding this week, children enjoyed various activities including rolling tennis balls, catching from a distance, which changed often and running with short intervals!
Music

Author visit
On Tuesday, KS2 was delighted to attend an exciting assembly with author Jenny York! We learned more about the characters and plot of her new book, ways to collect ideas for a story, and the importance of having a bad event in the story (bad, awful, and disastrous!). Some children were chosen to be part of the assembly as different characters, and they did a brilliant job—lots of giggles and dances!
