Phonics

The children have enjoyed ‘paired reading’ this week. They shared a book with a friend and did some super re-reading after decoding each sentence.

We have been updating our phonics assessments. The children have impressed us with their phonic knowledge. Please keep practising the flashcards and playing on Fast Phonics.

Phonics Play is another great website and is a fun way to practise the phonemes and most of the games are free! The children enjoy playing the games – Picnic on Pluto is a favourite. Please click here to play at home.

Maths

This week, we have been learning about sharing and grouping. The children did lots of practical activities.

Delicious Fruit Salad

The children enjoyed making a fruit salad. They helped peel, chop, and slice all the fruit. It was very tasty!

Our final mystery fruit was a papaya from Brazil. The children have enjoyed tasting lots of new fruits and finding out where they grow in the world.

Reading Buddies

RGK enjoyed spending time with their Year 4 Reading Buddies. They shared a book and then played outside together.

Understanding the World – Maps

This week we have learnt about Leeds being in the United Kingdom and that the United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The children have created their own United Kingdom maps. We have learnt about what the word urban means and this week we are looking at the word ‘rural‘. We have looked at rural places in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland using Google Earth.

Everything Else…

Secret Reader

Thank you to this week’s reader. The children enjoyed another lovely book.

Stockeld Park

The children are very excited about their trip to Stockeld Park in June. Thank you to everyone who has already paid. We have enough parent volunteers for RP, but we could do with one more for RGK.

Enjoy the half-term holiday, and we will see you all on Monday 2nd June.
