English
This week the children have retold one of the Tingatinga tales. This is a great way for young children to practise writing stories as they already know the key events and language. We focussed on moving the story along using time adverbials and adding detail and description to entertain the reader.
Next week we will be looking at non fiction texts about African animals. We have started thinking about this already by asking questions and using our chrome books to search for the answers.
Spelling
This week we have been looking at words which follow the rule: change the y to an i and add es.
We have looked at verbs such as carry, reply and fly and nouns such as jelly, party, baby and berry.
Maths
We are working hard on multiplication and division in maths. The children have been doing lots of times table practise which has included writing both multiplication and division number sentences.
Geography
This week in geography we have started to learn about a village in Zambia called Mugurameno. At the start of the week, we watched a short video then looked at photographs of the village. We then asked questions about these.
Later, we talked about how the people of Mugurameno use the river Zambezi. We learned that they use it for washing clothes and pots, fishing and for watering crops. They have to put up a crocodile fence so that people can use the river safely! We compared this to the ways that people use rivers where we live.
Art
We talked more about the style of Tingatinga art and tried to copy the simple shapes used to create different animals.
Next week we will create our own Tingatinga painting.
