This week we began our new narrative unit where we are going to be writing a story about a character who takes some magic medicine. We began with a drama lesson where we had a go at acting out our story. The magic medicine made us fly! We then looked at different right choice words to use instead of the verb ‘flying’ and came up with some fantastic ideas such as floating, soaring and zooming. We created two characters for our story and thought carefully about their appearance and personality and then had a go at using an apostrophe to show possession.
Spelling
This week we have been learning spelling rules for adding suffixes. Well done to all of the children who have been completing the weekly homework tasks.
Maths
In Maths we have been learning about money. We began by identifying the different coins and notes and did a fantastic job of this! We then looked at totalling amounts of pence, pounds and a combination of the two.
Well done to all of those children who have worked hard on their Mathletics homework activities this week and have achieved a certificate!
History
This week in our history lessons we looked why we remember Florence Nightingale. Using images from the past, we were able to build up a clear picture of what the hospital was like before Florence started working there and how much she changed it. We couldn’t believe how dark, dirty and crowded it was to begin with and were so pleased to see that she made it a clean, hygienic and comfortable place where soldiers actually got better!
We then looked at who Mary Seacole was and why she was also so important. After learning lots of interesting facts about her and her life, we created our very own fact files all about her.
We are looking forward to our Florence Nightingale workshop next week!
