As we conclude our fourth week back to school, it’s been another interesting and busy week for our Year 3 students. We’ve also experienced some really interesting rain downpours this week! In Class 3CW, we even paused our PSHE lesson to rush to the window and watch the rain together.
English
In English, the children focused on crafting vivid setting descriptions for a cave. They employed descriptive language and fronted adverbials to bring their caves to life. To immerse themselves in this imaginative experience, students practised by hiding under tables, visualising what it would be like in a dark cave. Their creativity truly shone through in their writing!
Maths
This week in Maths, we have just about wrapped up our unit on place value. The children learned to compare numbers up to 1000 and practised ordering various numbers within that range. We encourage them to utilise practical resources and to jot down their calculations in their workbooks, which helps reinforce their careful counting skills.
Science
In Science, we conducted an intriguing experiment to determine whether rocks are permeable. Students tested different types of rocks by putting them in water and observing for bubbles to see if the water passed through. This hands-on experience sparked plenty of curiosity and led to insightful discussions!
History
In History, we explored the concepts of cause and consequence, as well as continuity and change. The children began to investigate why life was different in the past, discussing how various historical events shaped daily life. Their insightful questions and observations about these changes were impressive!
PE
In PE, Class 3B focused on Multi-skills, while Class 3CW worked on gymnastics, honing their ability to hold shapes, reduce wobbling, and execute careful jumps with effective take off and landing techniques. We also enjoyed a weekly mix of classes, participating in a variety of games and activities, including dodgeball, dance, and multi-skills.

Class 3CW achieved a reading score of 68% which is our best score yet! While Class 3B achieved 66%. We greatly appreciate your support in reading with your child regularly at home and recording this in their reading records. A reminder that in KS2 children should be reading at home at least 5 times a week.
Additional information
Homework for this week is to compare and order numbers to 1000 in their books and also to log in to spelling shed and play some spelling games.
As the weather turns wetter, it’s a good idea to send your child with wellington boots for those rainy days. Please also ensure they arrive with a waterproof coat.
