It has been a very busy week at school with new Nursery and Reception Open Evenings, school trips and the final event of Y5/6 Show Time: 60 children at the ballet on Thursday evening. We are full again for Reception September 2024 and have only one part-time nursery space available.
Taking 60 children to the ballet is a bit stressful. The children behaved very well, and we got lots of compliments from audience members, but the show was very quiet and the seats at the Grand Theatre are excruciatingly squeaky! There were protests at the ballet around the imminent demise of the orchestra at Northern Ballet – soon to be replaced by recorded music. At the end of Acts 1 and 2, placards were raised from the orchestra pit with slogans like ‘Save Live Music’. There are reports that Music A Level courses are increasingly difficult to find and it is sad to see a Leeds-based orchestra under threat. Music is, of course, culturally enriching and the UK is a world-leader in many areas of the arts; it is a great concern that these things may be less secure in the future.
This week the children in the infants have enjoyed playing on their new slide courtesy of a generous parental donation and match-funding from the PTA. The PTA have their Eid event tonight and are now advertising their fabulous Camp-Over on Saturday 6th July: get your tickets here! It is always a great day!
