English
This week in English we have been exploring the text The Sea of Tranquillity by Mark Haddon, a tale inspired by the first moon landing in 1969. We made inferences about what it would be like to land on the moon using a picture stimulus. We used the language from the text to build up a clear picture of what moon looks like and used this to create our own moon maps. After learning more about the moon landings, we made inferences about how Neil Armstrong would have been feeling at different points in his journey.
Maths
Continuing our work on fractions, we have been looking at the difference between unit fractions and non-unit fractions and using this knowledge to find fractions of amounts and shapes. We have been exploring how one half is equivalent to two quarters. We have also learned to find three-quarters.
Please complete the fractions activities on Mathletics. Children could also complete the sections in the CGP books for extra practise.
History
In history this week, we have been learning about the moon landing in 1969. We started by looking at the history of flight. Children put pictures in chronological order to create a time line. We then looked at some different sources of evidence to find out about the moon landing and also sequenced the events to show what happened.
PE
We had a go at some 1960s dance moves this week in our PE lesson. Some were easier than others! Can you remember any of the moves to The Twist, The Mash Potato, The Swim or The Pony?
Science
Look what happened to our sunflower seeds! We found out that they didn’t need to be in soil to germinate.
Now that most of our seeds have germinated, we have planted them in some soil. We have made some predictions about what we might start to see next week.
PSHE
We started to talk about similarities and difference between people. The children worked in boy girl pairs to find things they had in common as well as differences. We then talked about how some people say that certain colours, activities, sports or hobbies are for boys or girls. We concluded that we had both boys and girls that liked the same colours, activities, sports and hobbies!
