Despite the disappointing weather, we have still had a lovely week and even managed to get outside for some lessons!
Maths
In Maths this week, we have continued our fractions topic and looked at improper fractions. These are fractions where the numerator (number at the top) is greater than or equal to the denominator (number at the bottom), meaning they have a value greater than 1. Have a look at the video below to recap.
English
In English this week, we looked at perspectives in The Boy at the Back of the Class in preparation for writing our own free verse poems in the next few lessons. We focussed on some key characters and thought about how each of them felt about the new boy in class. The children did a great job of putting themselves in each character’s shoes to understand their perspectives.
Science
The children completed a hands-on investigation in science this week, finding out where on the school grounds the most worms could be found. The children used their ‘working scientifically’ skills to plan a comparative test. In small groups, the children chose an area of the school grounds to test. They used a hoop to mark out their testing zone, then dug part of the earth up to see how many worms they could find. Fortunately, the wet weather was perfect for this as the children found lots of worms! The children recorded their results then analysed their data to see where the most and least number of worms were found and thought about possible reasons for this.
Homework
Maths homework will be assigned on Mathletics and spellings on Spelling Shed.
