We found a lost star!

What an exciting week! RP and RGK received a letter from a star who had fallen from the sky. They had to use their detective skills to find it. Once they found the star they had to think of ways they could get it back up to the sky. The children wrote to the star, drew maps and made some super models. We can now report back that the star has made it safely back home. Maybe you can see it twinkling in the sky tonight?

Phonics

Our tricky word this week is ‘you’. Can your child write this word? Can they spot it in any of their books?

We have also learnt the phonemes/ graphemes ‘ch‘ and ‘sh‘. Can you use your phonic flashcards to make words that have ‘ch’ and ‘sh‘ in?

Maths

This week the children have been consolidating their understanding of the composition of 5. Composing and decomposing numbers involves the children investigating part–part–whole relations, e.g. seeing that 5 can be made of 3 and 2. Through lots of practical activities, they are developing their understanding of a ‘whole’ being made up of smaller parts.

They have enjoyed singing and acting out lots of songs about 5.

Music

The children have had lots of fun playing the musical instruments. They enjoyed singing the song “What’s inside the music box?” We also sang a fun song about five monkeys and a crocodile and this introduced the children to the word ‘pulse’. They learnt that the pulse is like the heartbeat of the music.

RE

This week the children have been talking about what makes a good friend. The children looked at pictures of a sculpture – ‘Circle of Friends’. Everyone could say the names of all their friends. We then read the book Mr Pod and Mr Picalilli.

This is what we think makes a good friend…

Playing games with each other, reading a book with a friend, listening to our friends, helping friends and tidying up with each other.

Reading Buddies

RGK enjoyed meeting their Reading Buddies from Year 4. They had fun sharing books and getting to know each other. We will meet up each half-term for lots of fun with books!

Reading Challenge

Well done to everyone who completed January’s Reading Challenge. The theme for this month is animals.

Have a lovely weekend.
