English

This week we have been writing our magic medicine instructions. Children have used time words and bossy verbs in their steps. We even wrote a warning to add to the bottle!

We then moved onto our new narrative unit. We are going to be writing a story about a character who takes some magic medicine. Here we are acting out our story. The magic medicine made us fly! Next week we will be developing our characters and then planning and writing our stories!

Spelling

This week in spelling we have been looking at rules for adding the suffixes ing, y, er and est.

We learned that ‘you can’t have an e with an ing!’ If the root word ends in e, you need to take off the e. e.g. make- making or shine- shiny.

Maths

We have continued our Money topic this week. Thank you for completing the homework task last week. Looking at real coins has really helped lots of the children in school. We have been looking at selecting notes and coins to pay for an item and also we have been looking at making the same amount in different ways.

Science

We are learning about materials and their properties in science. The children have been sorting and talking about the properties of materials for the past few weeks. Today we have started to plan an investigation. we are trying to find out which fabric will be the best to make curtains which will stop the light getting through. We will carry out our investigation next week.

PSHE

This week we thought about some safety rules for medicines. The children know how to keep them selves and others safe by following these rules:

  1. Keep medicines out of the sight and reach or children
  2. Always read the label
  3. Never take anyone else’s medicines
  4. Take the right amount of medicine. Measure it carefully
  5. Only take medicine from a trusted adult

Music

We have been enjoying learning our song ‘ Rainbows’ and playing instruments to accompany our singing.
