We have reached the end of a very long but fantastic half-term! We have packed so much learning into the past 8 weeks and we are already looking forward to our topics next half-term!
Maths
We completed our Addition and Subtraction topic in Maths this week, ending with lessons on efficient subtraction methods, estimating answers and checking strategies. These are all really important and useful concepts to understand as it will support children with their mental maths and arithmetic skills, as well as helping children to check their work independently. English
In English this week, we finished our unit based on The Firework Maker’s Daughter by writing recounts from different perspectives. The children focussed on the character of Lalchand this week and wrote a diary entry about the events of the firework competition from his point of view. The children were able to write in the first person, used effective time adverbials and described Lalchand’s thoughts and feelings about the different events that took place.
Science
We completed our Electricity unit by learning about insulators and conductors, before bringing all of our learning together in a ‘double-page spread’. The children planned an investigation to test whether different materials were insulators or conductors. To do this, the children built a circuit with wires, a bulb and a cell, and added a range of materials into their circuits. The children recognised that if the bulb still lit up with the additional material, the material was a conductor, but if the bulb did not light up, the material was an insulator.
Music
We have been working hard on our singing and glockenspiel playing in music this half-term! We have been learning a song called Hoedown and the children have been very enthuiastic about it! It was also lovely to see many children playing their own instruments in our lessons and performances too. Have a watch of 4Ke’s performance below!
Homework
We haven’t set any specific homework for the half-term holidays, but the children should continue improving their times tables knowledge (particularly speed of answering!). Children should also continue learning Y3/4 spellings and read as much as possible too!
DT Next Half-Term
After half-term, we will be making electronic games in DT. For this, it would be really useful if you were able to bring in any complete boxes (e.g. shoe boxes with lids) that you have at home. Thank you!
