Year 4 Blog 6.10.23

We have had another super week in Year 4!

Maths
In Maths this week, we completed our Place Value topic by rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. The children had to identify which multiples of 10, 100 or 1000 a number sat between in order to decide which one it would round to. The children progressed to using specific digits in the numbers to decide whether the number rounded to the previous or next multiple of 10, 100 or 1000. Have a look at the video below for a recap.

English
This week in English, the children used their own research to write detailed explanations about how fireworks are made. The children were able to organise their information into paragraphs with subheadings and used a range of fronted adverbials to add more information to their sentences. They also linked their clauses togother with effective causal conjunctions to support their explanations.

Science
We have been investigating more circuits in Science this week. The children were given a selection of circuit diagrams and had to use their knowledge of circuits to decide whether each circuit would work. The children gave some great explanations about why circuits would or wouldn’t work and were able to use scientific vocabulary, such as electrons and cell.

Trips and Visitors
We have some great visitors and trips organised throughout Year 4 to support the children’s learning. We will be having a workshop with Sam the Sound Man in November (which links to our Sound topic in Science) and we will be going to Murton Park near York in February to experience life as a Viking for the day (which supports our History curriculum)! We will be asking for a contribution towards the costs of both of these visits/trips, so we will be sending letters out as soon as possible to give you as much notice as we can.

Truman Books
As a school, we have a loyalty account set up with Truman Books. This means that if you, your family members or your children purchase any books from Truman Books and mention Farsley Farfield Primary School, we will accrue points to spend on lovely new books for school. They also have lots of children’s events planned for this year’s Farsley Literature Festival, details of which can be found at www.farsleylit.co.uk

Homework
Maths – adding and subtracting 1, 10 and 100
Spelling – words with the prefix ‘in’

We hope you have a great weekend,
The Year 4 Team
