Headteacher Blog 8th September 2023

This is the start of my 20th academic year as head of Farfield and it continues to be a lovely, exciting time of year. Children joining Reception is always a special time for them and their families and they look so smart and eager starting their school journey. It has been a gloriously sunny and warm/hot first week of the school year and we have enjoyed it whilst it lasts.

Let us all be thankful that we aren’t caught up in the RAAC debacle. We were inspected in June and given the all-clear. It does seem odd that there are 30-odd affected schools in Essex, a few in Birmingham, a couple in Bradford but none, so far, in Leeds. I fear this issue may run and run, and it is likely to have implications for other school capital investment.

We continue to await an Ofsted visit; they are well overdue and we wish that they had come before the summer. An early visit will be odd in terms of evidencing the quality and coverage of the curriculum but they must know that. They say that we shouldn’t do preparations that are above and beyond what we would ordinarily do, but that is easier said than done. Let’s hope they come next week and we can get it done.

Enjoy the weekend sunshine!
