Reception News – 21.7.23

Phonics

This week we have revised all the tricky words we have learnt in Reception and some of the tricker phase 3 phonemes/graphemes. We have also practised forming capital letters.

Maths

We have been learning about spatial reasoning and maps. The children have had fun looking at lots of different maps and what we use maps for. They then worked in small groups to create their own maps – how they get to school, maps of their house and maps for the story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’.

They also found a treasure map! They had fun following the map and reading the clues.

Sports Day Fun!

We hope you enjoyed Sports Day. The children all tried their best and we were very proud of them. Well done!

Fun in Year 1

The children visited their new classrooms and met their new/not-so-new teachers!

Summer Reading Challenge – Ready, Set, Read!

The local libraries have a summer reading challenge. Can your child read six books over the summer holidays? You can sign up at any library in Leeds, free of charge. If they read six books they will be rewarded with a certificate and a medal!

Books

Please can all library and reading books be returned to school before the end of term. Lots of children have borrowed books that we need to return to the Leeds Library Service.

Have a super weekend, 2 days to go!
