Good evening. Even though we are nearing the end of the school year, the children are still working hard in all their lessons. The weather hasn’t been brilliant but we have still managed to get out and practise our sports day events in readiness for next Wednesday.
English
We have been learning about the present perfect tense in English this week and to practise using it, the children have written a letter of thanks – to the monkeys in the Cloud Tea Monkeys. Obviously, the monkeys love letters of thanks but prefer bananas more, and so we combined the two. You can view the picture gallery here.
Next week, the children will be writing haikus. These are a particular style of poem, originating in Japan, and consist of three line with five, seven and five syllables respectively.
Geography
Our topic this term, looking at and comparing Leeds and Burnsall has finally come to an end. We have had two trips and carried out plenty of research in order to answer the question of where we would like to live. This week, the children have written a summary of the pros and cons of both places and come to their final conclusion. The overall standard of writing has been very impressive and below is an example, written by Vanshika.
Leeds v Burnsall – Where I Would Like to Live
Leeds
Leeds is a very social place to live in. There are restaurants, parks and lots and lots of activities to do anytime anywhere! There are lots of places and things to keep you entertained such as the owl trail,( a little treasure hunt, great for families) parks, museums and art galleries. Leeds is a great place but there is lots of noise, pollution and traffic too.
Burnsall
Burnsall is a great place and super scenic. The views are wonderful. Burnsall is a lovely place to walk around and have picnics on a hot day or any weather! Also the River Wharfe is a great place to go and read a book or have a picnic.Burnsall is in the Yorkshire Dales, a little windy but other than that super. I love this place but there is not much to do other than look at the scenery and walk. There is only one pub ( The Red Lion) and an ice- cream shop.
Where I would like to live
I would like to live in Burnsall as the scenery is gorgeous and every day I can wake up to a beautiful view! I can walk and have a nice time with my family and have a calm time with not many people there, like Leeds where it is really busy and you can’t get anywhere. Although Burnsall does not have much shops and entertainment, I can make my own fun! The River Wharfe is one of the best things about Burnsall too. I love Burnsall!

Next week, we will be completing a review of the children’s favourite moments of the year. This will be in the form of a pop up book. We have practised making a selection of pop ups and constructed several levers over the past couple of weeks, and this week we planned exactly what we will be putting in the books. If the books are the same standard as the rest of the DT projects undertaken this year, then we will see some great work.
