Headteacher blog 29th March
What a remarkable (short) week we have had at Farfield. We have had two successful Y2 visits to the Grand Mosque in Leeds, a Y2 ‘Africa’ morning with special visitors and Year 4 had an extended day at Murton Park, playing the role of Viking villagers. This morning, the infant hall was packed for Year 1’s Spring Chicken event and I am sure that parents will have been impressed by the quality of the children’s written work, drawings, cooking and videos.
Today we have hosted an enormous event in the Junior Hall. We have been chosen as the national launch school for the RAF’s 100th anniversary celebrations. This privilege came from the attention Y6’s brilliant work got last autumn around the recently rediscovered Farfield WW1 airfield. Two classes from Y2 and Y6 worked with event leaders from London to learn more about the history of the RAF, and we have visited the graveyard in Farsley to see the grave of a local RAF hero. We were joined by TV and radio, special guests such as local historians and members of the RAF as well as the Lord Mayor Councillor Dowson. It has been an honour to host this event today and to misquote Gary Player: “The more ambitious our curriculum, the luckier we get.”

Isabel has had a fantastic week this week. Will the RAF event be televised? If so, do you know when?
Isabel spoke beautifully at the churchyard this morning. I believe it was a crew from BBC Look North that were with us today so I would hope that we are included in Look North tonight.
