What a week we have had!

We have had Year 5 residential this week. I attended Monday to Wednesday and had a fantastic three days. Activities included a night walk, waterfall walk and paddle, caving, mountain biking and a river study. Class 5W with whom I spent residential were a delight and they even impressed the passengers of the train upon which we returned on Wednesday:

“Dear Head Teacher,

I have just had the pleasure of sharing a train journey with a group of young people returning from their residential stay in the Yorkshire Dales. The children were very well behaved, quiet and polite. I enjoyed hearing about the activities and heard children chatting confidently to other passengers about their positive experience.

The train was unexpectedly very full and your pupils moved around carefully without any fuss or commotion. Please pass on my regards; they are a credit to your school. I spotted the school logo on a staff sweatshirt.

Best wishes

The residential is only possible due to the hard work of people like Mrs Hawkhead, other staff volunteers and supporters of the school such as Charlie Pyatt, Phil Jackson and Chris Young. We are grateful and thankful to all of them.

On Thursday, KS1 had a wonderful in-house animal safari but, sadly, COVID returned to Farfield on the same day and we had to send two classes home. This is such a difficult time – my own son is self-isolating too and ‘climbing the walls’ – and it has been going on so long. The vaccines are making a difference, but the spread of this Delta variant amongst young people is so disruptive and we may need to find another way of managing these cases. That decision is way above my pay grade.

Finally, some great news: our sponsored PTA ‘Mountain Challenge’ has raised over £4500 so far. This is an awesome result: thank you so much for your support!
