Farsley Farfield Primary School

Head teacher blog November 29th 2018

It has been quite a week – lots of events and an unexpected drama on Tuesday when we had a partial power failure in the infants building which resulted in us having to make over 320 packed lunches at very short notice! The Farfield team all pulled together and we got through a very tricky afternoon.

On Sunday, we had the first of the ‘Show Time’ events – a chance for Y5 and Y6 pupils to experience a range of theatrical shows over the year at weekends and weekday evenings. The first event was a spectacular retelling of War Horse with Michael Morpurgo, Juliet Stevenson, a choir and the orchestra of Opera North. The children were also spell-bound by the illustrations being projected behind the stage of the Leeds Town Hall. Over 30 children attended and the event went very well (except for a late return). Members of the audience commented on the good manners of the children and were amazed at a school trip on a Sunday!

In many ways, this week has been dominated by sports. Since my last blog, we have had three football matches, two cross country events (one of which was Saturday morning), a rugby tournament and an inclusive ‘tri-golf’ event. In the next two weeks we have an ‘aquathon’, a dodgeball competition and an indoor hockey event.  Three of our cross country teams have qualified for the city finals (the only teams from Pudsey to do so) and another two girls have received wildcard entries. Our Year 3 runners did particularly well, with Erin and Todd winning their respective races!

Charlie Pyatt, the School Games Organiser for West Leeds commented in an email this week: “Congratulations to teams and individuals who qualified for the Leeds [x country] finals: excellent work giving your pupils so many opportunities to participate and excel in school sport.  It is great to work with such a proactive and friendly school and staff.”  As Charlie notes, much of this would not be possible without the generous support given to school sport by the staff volunteers that accompany the children (and the generosity of the PTA in supporting our use of minibuses to get there!).  Many, many thanks.
