Farsley Farfield Primary School

Head teacher blog 14th July 2017

Sports Day was a great success I hear: sadly, I missed it as I was in meetings in Leeds all day. Many thanks to Miss Hutchinson and Mr Cooke for putting on such strong, inclusive events every year.

On Tuesday we made three good new appointments to school as TAs:  Andrea Birk-Telford, Brittany Kear and Jamie Gregory. All of these talented new colleagues will be working in the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) from September to support some new children joining us with additional needs. On Thursday, all the children R-5 met their new teachers and spent some time in their new classroom. Our four new teachers all came for the day and made very good impressions. It will be sad to see some staff leave in a couple of weeks, but there is also a benefit from bringing in some new faces, new ideas and energetic enthusiasm into the school that only new appointments can bring. We do need to make sure that we have a strong induction process for all of these new colleagues.

On Thursday, Nursery had a successful trip to St Leonard’s Farm and today a class from Year 4 are heading off to Horton in Ribblesdale for a day trip to support their geography curriculum. We have been visiting Horton for many years and we have been saddened by the news that its lovely village school is about to close.

School reports have begun to be published this week and the vast majority are very positive. Key Stage 1’s reports went out earlier in the week and Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 are ready to go. Foundation Stage and Year 6 should be published on Monday – it is a busy time of year for us! We hope that you enjoy reading these reports with your children and perhaps gently work on one or two areas over the summer and into next year.

Thanks Katja. You are one of the children I will always remember. I hope life is treating you well. I will really miss Farfield and all the great people, young and older I’ve met.
